We love our fur babies, and they love us right back!

If you have pets, you know that your family portrait won’t be complete without them. Pets are just as much of our family as people are. So, it is important to treat them the same as any other member of your family and invite them along to your photo session!

Here at Casa Bay Photography we always encourage families to bring their pets along! They make the session fun and make the family happy… we also LOVE to pet them and play with them, so everyone wins!

It is very important, however, to take a couple of things into account when working with pets so we can keep them comfortable. Knowing their needs is necessary to a successful photo shoot with your ENTIRE family.

Tip #1: Every pet is different!
Tip #1: Every pet is different, just like people. It is important to think about little things like the breed of the dog, this can determine how much energy they have. If you have a high energy dog, it would be best to wear them out with a hike or a jog before their photoshoot. If they bring all that energy to the session, they might get frustrated and not cooperate when you expect them to stand still.

Tip #2: Treats! Treats! Treats!
Tip #2: Treats! Treats! Treats! For the most part dogs are usually food motivated. Set them up for success! Do not forget their favorite snack, and bring lots of them. While food is the most effective motivator, other things like their favorite squeaky toy would help get their attention and get the shots you desire. Praise them when they are good! Like children, it will keep the bad behavior at bay and keep them interested and coming back for more.

Tip #3: Take breaks!
Tip #3: Take breaks! Everyone needs a little time off every now and then, and so do your pets. Incorporate work and play time. Not every shot needs your pet in it. One of our secrets here at Casa Bay Photography, is we ask our clients to invite a friend to the session. Someone who can walk the dog around until it is their time to be photographed, and can distract them when they are not being photographed.

Tip #4: Patience!
Tip #4: Patience! When pets meet new people they are excited, and a photo session is a new and exciting activity. Like anyone, if given time to relax they will come around and chill out. Let them say hi and run a bit, they always need a couple of minutes to settle down. Be patient and know that the more calm they are the better quality pictures you will get, so relax! After a few minutes they will start working with us!

Tip #5: For the love of dog! Bring those fur-babies!
Tip #5: For the love of dog! Photographing pets takes a little extra work, but this little additional time and effort is incredibly worth it!

We always encourage families to bring their pets. They are apart of the family too! When a photographer is experienced with photographing pets, we know what to expect and love to be able to capture your time with them. Don’t feel the need to apologize for any dog-like (or cat-like) behavior they might show. We expect to get some kisses, and do not mind the slobber. It is always a pleasure to take a little extra hair as a souvenir!

We know that getting prepared for a photo session can be stressful and a lot of work. Knowing tips and tricks on how to prepare your favorite companion will allow you to have a stress-free session. You can focus on enjoying the session and leave the rest to us!
